Is Yoga all you need to keep you fit? Yoga Haywards Heath
Here at Linear Health & Fitness we would always recommend that a wide variety of exercise is the best way to stay ‘fit’ and healthy. However, we start thinking – how do you define ‘fit’? For each and every one of you reading this blog it will mean something different, and for each and every scientist and medical expert out there it will mean something different again. So, the question was then asked, if you can’t define ‘fit’ then how can you not claim that Yoga is the only thing that can keep you ‘fit’. We tested Yoga against three different medical definitions of fitness and here are the results!
Is Yoga all you need to keep you fit? Yoga Haywards Heath –
Cardiorespiratory fitness
This refers to your heart, lungs and blood vessels, the better your cardiorespiratory fitness better your stamina, the lower your risk for diseases like heart disease, diabetes, and cancer as well as a host of other conditions as well.
Yoga has been proven to boost your cardiorespiratory fitness in numerous studies due to its focus on breathing and exhaling. Therefore, benefiting your lungs and also allowing you to transport oxygen and carbon dioxide more efficiently around the body. This has a direct result on your workouts as if your body struggles to transport oxygen and carbon dioxide efficiently around the body then you feel tired and fatigued more quickly.
Is Yoga all you need to keep you fit? Yoga Haywards Heath – Muscular fitness
Muscular fitness is measured in two ways, firstly muscular strength (how heavy is the object you can lift) and muscular endurance (how long you can lift it for) both of these are helped with yoga, when you reach a difficult pose it takes both great core and muscular strength and then also having the hold the pose takes muscular endurance. Again both of these directly link back to your workout sessions at Linear Health & Fitness, building muscular strength is paramount in boxing, indoor cycling, kettlebells as well as any personal training sessions you have. Muscular endurance is also essential in exercise, having the staying power to stay at a certain level of intensity is what helps you burn fat and shift excess pounds. The longer you can stay at a higher level of intensity, the more calories you will burn.
Is Yoga all you need to keep you fit? Yoga Haywards Heath – Tendons & Fibres
As we age our muscles shorten and our tendons, the tissue that connects muscles to bones, become stiffer. This reduces the range of motion, preventing optimum movement of your knees, shoulders, elbows, spine, and other joints.
Loss of flexibility may also be associated with an increased risk of pain and injury during exercise, this is why warm ups and warm downs become even more important during exercise. These warm ups traditionally start 5-10 minutes before we exercise however yoga allows us to start those warm ups and warm downs hours or even days before exercise. Ensuring our muscles are as flexible and limber as possible before our workout, to avoid injury.
Tight hamstrings, for example, pull down on your pelvis, putting pressure on your lower back. In general, tight muscles increase the likelihood you’ll suddenly move past your safe range of motion and damage ligaments, tendons, and the muscles themselves.
